After winning four consecutive terms as mayor of Heath, a Dallas suburb, Ratcliffe primaried 17-term Congressman Ralph Hall in 2014.

Hall, then 91, was the last World War II veteran serving in Congress and at the time the oldest person ever to serve in the House of Representatives.

Ratcliffe received the endorsement of the Dallas Morning News and grassroots conservative organizations including the Tea Party Express and Club for Growth.

Ratcliffe’s runoff victory marked the first time in two decades a Republican member of Texas’ congressional delegation lost to a primary challenger.
