Michael Bloomberg was the mayor of New York City for three terms, but prior to this, he ran a financial and media conglomerate bearing his namesake.
He has donated to a variety of campaigns from both political parties, but he recently has begun donating to more Democratic causes (especially on the issue of gun control) despite initially running for mayor of the Big Apple as a Republican.
Bloomberg is worth approximately $48.7 billion.
