The Obama administration has announced that they will be bringing in more Syrian refugees into the United States. The administration now says that the 10,000 refugees proposed is a floor, not a ceiling.

From The Washington Times

Administration officials said Friday that the 10,000 Syrian refugees President Obama wants to welcome this fiscal year is a floor, not a ceiling, and they can go even higher than that total.

“We can now say that we’ve welcomed 8,000 Syrian refugees so far this year and we are very confident we will welcome at least 10,000,” Assistant Secretary of State Anne C. Richard told reporters in updating the flow.

At today’s pace, more than 12,000 refugees could be admitted by the end of September, which marks the end of the fiscal year.

Those are part of the 85,000 total refugees from around the world that Mr. Obama has said he can accept.

On paper there is a refugee vetting process in place. But there are concerns about whether or not that process is through enough. Most identification databases and records have been destroyed in Syria’s ongoing civil war.

There have been terrorist attacks caused in Europe by Syrian refugees. In Germany, refugees have been accused of committing sex crimes against German women. Last month, a Syrian refugee set to be deported blew himself up at a wine bar in Ansbach, Germany.

At a time when many Americans are demanding that their leaders put them first, it will be hard to justify another round of mass importation of Syrian refugees.
