After National Security Advisor Mike Flynn’s abrupt departure earlier this week, Democrats were salivating over the fact that the Trump Administration may have illegal communications with Russia.

Unfortunately, there’s no evidence to back that up.

According to a senior FBI official, who spoke anonymously to ABC News, the FBI had not gathered any evidence suggesting Trump staff knew they were talking to Russian intelligence officers.

Flynn was fired by Trump after it was revealed that he withheld information from Vice President Mike Pence about his call with Russia’s Ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak.

Leaked sources to the media confirmed that Flynn had spoken to Kislyak about Russian sanctions in December, after Trump had been elected President but before he took office. Flynn had also been in hot water for attending an event for the Russian media with Putin in December 2015, shortly before he became an advisor for the Trump campaign.

There’s no evidence that Flynn’s conversations with Russia went any further up the chain in the White House, considering that he had withheld information even to Vice President Pence about the details of the call. There’s also no evidence that Trump himself had been involved.

More importantly, there’s no evidence to suggest that Trump’s campaign team (or Trump himself) had colluded with Russia to “hack” the 2016 presidential election—another allegation that’s been tossed around.

Despite the lack of facts, the mainstream media has continuously tried to make this “scandal” stick to Trump. Democrats have also been busy—denouncing Flynn and Trump on social media, and calling for a full congressional investigation over Trump’s ties to Russia.
