A whole family of Muslim Iraqi refugees are on trial in Austria—after the vicious gang rape of a 28-year-old teacher on December 31, 2015.

Nine men, all from the same family and all refugees from Iraq, have been charged with “abuse of a defenceless person and rape in a very humiliating and agonising way for the victim.”

The victim, a woman who has only been identified as “Sabine K.” was drunk on New Year’s Eve. While drinking at a bar in Vienna, she became separated from her friends—who were later told that the four men she had been talking with had “taken her away.”

Sabine said she was taken to an apartment nearby, where five additional men were waiting. The nine men assaulted her, one after another. According to medical experts, Sabine was raped multiple times and sodomized, in an attack that lasted about two hours. Throughout the ordeal, Sabine was yelling at them to stop.

After the attack, one of her attackers took her to a bathroom—where he took a selfie with her on his mobile phone.

Sabine is now under psychiatric care for post-traumatic stress disorder. She’s been deemed too psychological fragile to face her attackers in court.

All but one of the men on trial deny raping Sabine—but their DNA was found in or on her body, after she reported the crime to the police. The one man who admitted his role, described as “Mohamed,” tearfully claimed that his judgment had been clouded because he was drunk on New Year’s Eve—a crime in Iraq, and against the Muslim faith.

None of the other eight men have shown remorse—continuing to deny the rape even after being presented with DNA evidence.
If convicted, they face up to 15 years each in jail.
