As Congress worked to certify Pennsylvania’s electoral votes at 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Reps. Andy Harris (R-Md.) and Colin Allred (D-Texas) got embroiled in an argument that almost came to blows:
Tensions rapidly escalated during a speech by Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) after the Western Pennsylvania congressman said GOP members who promoted voter fraud allegations were partially responsible for the violence in the Capitol hours before.
Rep. H. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to have Lamb’s comments stricken from the record. After she refused, Lamb exclaimed “the truth hurts,” when Harris and Allred began yelling at each other. Rep. Al Lawson (D-Fla.) nearly began throwing punches as well. It seems only the physical intervention of other members of Congress and congressional aides prevented a fight from breaking out. Speaker Pelosi’s gavel had no effect.
