Director of the American Conservative Union’s Nolan Center for Justice Pat Nolan joined AAN’s Krista Oliver to discuss Joe Biden’s lies about criminal justice reform and President Trump’s bipartisan success at reforming the system.
Nolan pointed out Joe Biden’s lie that he and Barack Obama were responsible for the early release of 10’s of thousands of drug offenders from prison. The releases actually came as a result of the Supreme Court decision in United States v. Booker, 543 U.S. 220 (2005).
Not only did the result of this case, which required sentencing to be based solely on facts admitted to by the defendant or proven to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt force the Obama administration to release these prisoners they did nothing to further criminal justice reform.
This was despite having control of the House and the Senate for 2 years of his presidency.
Nolan points out that while the Obama administration had no interest in the First Step Act President Trump worked with a bipartisan coalition to make it a reality.
As an integral part of that reform, Nolan is an authority on the issue, see what he has to say below.
