Los Angeles Country Deputy Sheriff, Alex Villanueva has challenged NBA star, LeBron James, to match the reward money offered for information on the gunman who brutally ambushed two sheriff deputies in their car over the weekend.

Alex Villanueva spoke on the KABC “Jon Phillips Show” about the attack:

“This challenge is to Lebron James. I want you to match that and double that reward, I know you care about law enforcement you expressed a very interesting statement about your perspective about race relations and officer-involved shootings and the impact it has on African-American communities, and I appreciate that. But likewise, we need to appreciate that respect for life goes across professions, across races creeds. I’d like to see Lebron James step up to the plate and double that.”

The NBA star has been extremely vocal in support of the controversial Black Lives Matter movement and been quick to comment on police misconduct. The pro athlete took to Twitter to express frustrations over police shootings after Ahmaud Arbery’s death, claiming he feels like Black men are being “hunted” by police.

The current reward money stands at $175,000- $75,000 coming from two private individuals and $100,000 from a combination of county donations. Both deputies are reported to be in stable condition following the attack.
