School Punishes Children for Refusing to Be Gender Neutral

An English school requiring all students to switch to a “gender neutral” uniform to accommodate transgender students locked its gates and called police to keep out female students who continue to wear skirts.

The Priory School in Lewes, East Sussex “updated its uniform policy in 2017 to include a rule which dictated that all new students must wear trousers,” the Independent reports. “The reason for the updated guideline was over ‘concerns’ regarding the length of skirts worn at the academic institution, and in order to cater for pupils who identify as transgender.”

The rule also “addresses the current issues of inequality and decency,” the school claims.

But weeks ago the school tightened the rules, forcing grandfathered students to buy the new uniform, even those with just months left graduation.

The change outraged some female students, who preferred wearing skirts.

“I haven’t bought the new uniform and I don’t see the point in wasting money,” student Nina Cullen tells the BBC.

When they appeared at school in skirts the school refused to let them inside, locked its doors and called police.

Rather than buckle to the school’s anti-gender agenda, about 150 students and parents organized a protest outside the school gates, drawing national attention.

“Speaking as a former Priory student, I’d like to state that this is absolutely bloody ridiculous, and the protesting parents & students have my full support. This whole gender neutral craze is out of control. Let girls be girls & boys be boys,” tweeted Piers Morgan.

“Very disturbed to see the school turning away girls from Priory school because they choose to wear a skirt and calling the police on them,” tweeted the Conservative MP for Lewes, Maria Caulfield.

Ironically, some students are condemning the school for threatening the environment.

“Libby Murray, who is in her final year, said the new rule meant clothes were going to be thrown away, which would contribute to the climate change crisis,” the BBC reports.

A Change.org petition against the dress code claims “It is also very bad for the environment because the old uniforms have to be thrown away, wasting old cotton uniform. Fast fashion [is] the second biggest contributor to climate change.”
