There were many factors that caused civil war in Syria. The oppressive Assad regime, instability in neighboring nations, and Islamic extremism, to name a few. But when asked what he thought was to blame, Secretary of State John Kerry offered an answer that should lead Americans to question his sanity:

Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday he believes global warming played a role in exacerbating the Syrian conflict.

“It is not a coincidence that immediately prior to the civil war in Syria, the country experienced the worst drought on record,” Kerry said during a speech in Milan Friday, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“Now, I’m not telling you that the crisis in Syria was caused by climate change,” Kerry said, adding that global warming “clearly made a bad situation a lot worse.”

Liberals cried foul when conservative organizations like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth questioned Kerry’s fitness for command. But now, the Middle East is on fire, with China, Russia, and Iran all on the march in Syria, while Obama dithers. Perhaps it’s council like this that’s to blame. Recently, Mike Huckabee joked that Obama thought the greatest threat to America was “sunburn.” The statement was funny, but seemed ridiculous, but statements like Kerry’s suggest the former governor wasn’t far off. While Americans want to know that the commander in chief and his advisors have a plan to defeat ISIS, Obama’s top cohorts are wasting time lecturing Americans about climate change.
