Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has accepted the resignation of Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly for criticizing a dismissed aircraft carrier captain who pleaded for help during a coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship.

Modly suspects Captain Brett Crozier subsequently leaked his letter to Navy brass to the press, although there is no proof. But is suspicion sufficient grounds to fire an aircraft carrier captain given his awesome responsibilities?
