The execution of a search warrant on the private residence of former President Donald Trump appears to be hardening already-cemented public opinion that the FBI is hopelessly politicized and acts as a personal enforcer for liberal officials.

A shocking Rasmussen Reports poll released in January found a stunning 46 percent of likely voters believed “there is a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI who are using the FBI … as Joe Biden’s personal Gestapo.”

That finding is surprising as not only has the FBI historically enjoyed wide public support, but “Gestapo” is an explicit Nazi reference.

Only 38 percent of likely voters disagreed with the comparison of the FBI to Hitler’s secret state police.

Likely voters also viewed the FBI director as a political activist.

“Fifty percent of voters now believe the FBI director is influenced by the president in his decision-making, while only 26% believe Wray is truly independent of the administration, and another 25% are not sure,” Rasmussen Reports announced in its findings. “That’s a near-complete reversal from May 2017, when 53% believed the FBI director was truly independent and 26% thought he was influenced by the president.”

The poll, conducted as the agency began its investigation of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, found Americans split in their views of the agency, with only 46 percent viewing the FBI favorably and 47 percent seeing it unfavorably.

Only 15 percent saw the FBI “very favorably” while 26 percent viewed it “very unfavorably.”

Sixty percent of likely voters had viewed the agency favorably overall when the question was polled in May 2020.
