Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) declared Friday they would prioritize federal pro-abortion legislation in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

In a statement posted to her website, Murkowski said, “In the wake of this ruling, it is up to Congress to respond. Legislation to accomplish that must be a priority.”

She reiterated her commitment to legislation she previously introduced to codify Roe, stating, “I introduced legislation in February to protect women’s reproductive rights as provided in Roe, and I am continuing to work with a broader group to restore women’s freedom to control their own health decisions wherever they live.”

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), who cosponsored the legislation with Murkowski, issued a statement of support for it and bipartisan legislation currently in the works.

“Earlier this year, Senator Murkowski and I introduced the Reproductive Choice Act to codify the abortion rights established by Roe v. Wade and affirmed by Planned Parenthood v. Casey. I am also working with Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) on a bipartisan bill that would codify Roe, Casey, Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt, and Griswold v. Connecticut,” she wrote.

“Our goal with this legislation is to do what the Court should have done — provide the consistency in our abortion laws that Americans have relied upon for 50 years.”

Even with the two Republican Senators, Democrats would fall short of the 60 votes required if the filibuster remains in place. If they remove the filibuster, just 50 votes would be needed with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie.

However, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he hoped the Senate could come together to pass bipartisan legislation, implying he is not prepared to get rid of the filibuster at this time.

Baldwin plans to do the same, noting Republicans’ position on abortion, including that women who are survivors of rape or incest be required to carry a pregnancy to term, are “radical and extreme.”

I just read about Senator Baldwin looking for anything good about her – typical Democrat owned by Chuck Schumer. We should expect her to support this “baby-killing” legislation crafted by two “Republican” Democrats.

Wow you really have hatred against Catholics! Roe vs Wade should not have been decided by the Supreme Court! It should gave been a State issue where the citizens of the state could support or not support Abortion. The Supreme Court was just putting this issue back to the states where it belonged.you really do need to temper your hate.

President Trump followed the constitution and tried to save those babies making an executive order to get them medical help!! He even gave an executive order to arrest and fine anyone who abuses animals!! This is their demonic satanic sacrifice to molech to murder these babies!! God will not sit there and continue to allow these big mouth trolls to go against Him and murder these babies or try to pervert our school children! God has had enough and now His judgement is upon them!!!

I cannot fathom the ignorance of putting Gov. DeSantis into the grouping with such pitiful excuses for semi-intelligent “politicians” like Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, Murkowski, Cheney, Buttigieg, McConnell, and others. Having recently lived in Florida, I found him impressive as a governor. You must live in either Hawaii or Alaska – you need to become more informed about CONUS politics as you know almost nothing about Florida (except maybe that it is a State).

So clueless. The word ABORTION does not appear in either our Constitution or our Bill of Rights, so it is a states issue, period. This has nothing to do with Catholics or any other denomination. YOu need to read and understand the issue before coming here and embarrassing yourself.
