Late night host Stephen Colbert was blasted on social media after he seemed to openly mock normal Americans’ concerns about skyrocketing gas prices.
As The Daily Wire reports:
On Monday, in the face of rising gas prices that may well devastate American consumers, “Late Night” host Stephen Colbert pontificated from his elitist perch, “Today, the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high of over $4/gallon. OK, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two. It’s important. I’m willing to pay $4/gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon b/c I drive a Tesla.”

Colbert’s contempt for rural America was demonstrated as far back as May 2019; the cold open for his show opened by mocking farmers, intimating that if their finances were hurt by President Trump’s tariffs targeting China, those country-dumb bumpkins would lose their wives to convicts, start stripping for a living, become alcoholics, and soon make a living growing marijuana.The show began by playing a clip from a CNN report that claimed President Trump’s “trade war [is] having a major impact on American farmers after talks with China have halted. Some farmers seem to be losing hope.” CNN then played a clip of a farmer who said he had voted for Trump in 2016 but would not do so again.

You probably have never been exposed to families that need a simple thing like milk to feed their children so they can sleep a good night. And all of the food and groceries he buys come from a grocery store. Farmers, who are they? And by the way, I was one and still live on a farm though it is now farmed by a neighbor. I don’t know another farmer in California’s Great Central Valley (most productive agricultural area on the planet) that didn’t vote for Donald Trump in both 1916 and 1920, though a few of us holding our noses when we did in 2020 as the clearly (and now well-proven) waaaaaay far lesser of two evils.
Mr. Colbert, how often do you take that Tesla on a cross-country drive, or even into some of our National Parks. Try to find charging stations when you drive into the wilds where the closest electrical outlet (read electrical grid) is 50 miles away. Solar charging? Something seems to happen to that at night or on an overcast/rainy day.
