Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is now threatening to kill the filibuster once and for all, if conservatives use it to stop his newly proposed ‘voting rights’ legislation that is.
As NPR reports:
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed the Senate will forge ahead on voting rights legislation and will vote on changing the rules of the upper chamber by Jan. 17 if the GOP once again blocks the bill.
“We must adapt. The Senate must evolve, like it has many times before,” Schumer wrote in a Dear Colleague letter Monday morning. This message is his strongest to date suggesting that changes to the legislative filibuster are necessary.
“As former Senator Robert Byrd famously said, Senate Rules ‘must be changed to reflect changed circumstances,’ ” he said. “Put more plainly by Senator Byrd, ‘Congress is not obliged to be bound by the dead hand of the past.’ ”
In an effort to make good on their promise to take up voting rights legislation this month, Senate Democrats are linking the upcoming anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol with what they see as increasing threats to the right to vote enacted by various Republican state legislatures.
The GOP is expected to oppose the move, and it remains unclear whether Schumer can count on Democrats Krysten Sinema and Joe Manchin to support his potential crusade to destroy the filibuster, with both having previously expressed their support for keeping the filibuster as is.
He is just as bad as the rest of the Democrats demons if they don’t get their way they have to do something that is wrong and I hope in the end it will destroy him

Why do you think the dems want this so-called voter rights bill? It is to keep mail-in voting and enable them to steel future elections. This way they can do what they want whenever they want and turn the US into a socialist country. The reason they are getting desperate to pass it is because they can see the writing on the wall and know that if they don’t get it passed the GOP will take over and ruin their plans.

Once the GOP is back in control of the Senate, I expect them to take advantage of the filibuster-free path to abolish the radical change in voting privileges [NOT rights] that the Democrats put in.
Krysten Sinema [D-Az] wrote a powerful op-ed piece in the WaPo cautioning the power-hungry Democrats [= almost all the Democratic senators] about exactly this kind of scenario: laws careening wildly with each new change of power. I’d be astounded if she votes to remove the filibuster on “voting rights.”
Not if they change the voting rules which would mean democrate rule forever and ever.
If they shove this “right to vote” bill through, there will never be another Republican senate. Probably never another republican elected to anything. They want mail in voting, which provides the easiest way to cheat.

Without the filibuster the nation would swing wildly form one position to the other with a hanger in control. The filibuster is the only thing that prevents this. The Constitution was designed to protect the minority. The filibuster is a necessary extension of this. Without the filibuster, then the soonest majority could impose their will on the minority leading to the tearing of the fabric of our union. Apparently this is what the Democrats want.
