The former head speechwriter for George W. Bush William McGurn slammed President Joe Biden in a scathing op-ed in the Wall Street Journal over what McGurn’s believes is Biden attempt to create a false equivalence between losing his own son to cancer and the plight of gold star parents whose children died while in combat.
As The Daily Wire reports:
On Monday, in a scathing opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal, William McGurn, the chief speechwriter for former President George W. Bush, eviscerated President Biden for incessantly bring up his late son Beau after American servicemen and women were murdered by terrorists in Afghanistan. McGurn snapped, “Mr. Biden is not a Gold Star father and should stop playing one on TV.”
McGurn began his essay by noting that some people hoped Biden might “reconsider letting the Taliban dictate the terms of our exit.” He added, “These people profoundly misunderstand the president and the political equations driving his decisions. For Mr. Biden, the top priority was to use the 20th anniversary of 9/11 to take a victory lap as the president who ended America’s longest war. When Kabul fell, it added a new imperative: avoid any U.S. combat casualties that would mar the moment. Even at the cost of leaving Americans behind enemy lines and abandoning our Afghan partners.”
“Critics who accuse the president of having no strategy miss the point: What we are seeing is the strategy,” McGurn posited. “It is based on Mr. Biden’s confidence that no one will hold the disastrous consequences of his decisions about Afghanistan against him so long as our troops are gone. Accept this and Afghanistan falls neatly into place.”
McGurn recalled Biden stating in July, “There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy.” McGurn commented, “Turned out plenty of folks were evacuated from our embassy in Kabul, but no helicopter dared land on the rooftop lest a photographer end up with an image too close to Saigon ’75 for the political comfort of the commander in chief. “

I am a US Army Veteran, and I have met Gold Star parents. Sickness and war are 2 very different deaths. At least Sleepy Joe got to say goodbye to his son. None of the parents of those killed when he failed as CIC got to say goodbye.

I so agree with you, Biden is no Gold Star parent. But shame on him for continuing to use his son, Beau’s, memory to draw sympathy from his pathetic supporters.

The loss of a child no matter what the circumstances is gut wrenching. However, when you loose a loved one due to the fact that the Imbecile in Chief made a horrible decision and then he basically turned a calloused eye towards the disastrous outcomes, you better believe his comparisons of his son’s death have no merit to be voiced to the grieving families of those who died needlessly at the Kabul Airport!

I could be wrong on this but I thought that a Gold Star Parent was someone that lost their Son or Daughter from Armed Conflict, or a Dumb Ass President’s decision, but not someone who had their child die from Cancer. I suppose that the person could have gotten cancer from handling some type of carcinogens as part of their military duties, but I still don’t think that counts.

The difference between the death of Joe Biden’s son Beau and the 13 servicemen and women is that Beau died from cancer. The cancer Beau died from was not due to decisions made by the American President. The 13 servicemen and women that died, did so due to a direct disaster caused by decision made by Joe Biden…the American President. It’s like comparing apples and oranges, Joe!!!!
