The scandal surrounding Rep. Matt Gaetz continues to become stranger and stranger after news broke on Tuesday that he was under investigation for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old in connection with an interstate sex trafficking ring.
Gaetz made a bizarre appearance on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show later that night, during which he alleged that the accusations were part of an elaborate extortion scam designed by his political enemies to bring him down.
Now The Washington Examiner has obtained the documents and screenshots Gaetz claims will prove his innocence:
The documents in Gaetz’s possession detail an alleged scheme that revolves around attempts by former Air Force intelligence officer Bob Kent and Beggs & Lane attorney David McGee, a former federal prosecutor, to free ex-FBI agent-turned-private investigator Robert Levinson from imprisonment in Iran.
Levinson went missing in Iran in March 2007. McGee is the attorney for the Levinson family. Kent in December 2018 had planned a secret mission to try to rescue Levinson, but he was reportedly thwarted by the federal government.
Screenshots provided to the Washington Examiner show a message that his father, Don Gaetz, a former Florida state Senate president, said he received from Kent on March 16. The message proposes “a plan that can make [Matt Gaetz’s] future legal and political problems go away.” Gaetz has denied any relationship with a minor.
On March 17th Don Gaetz allegedly met with Kent and received a three-page document entitled ‘Project Homecoming’ which further detailed the scheme:

The document claims that, among other things, Gaetz was allegedly photographed with underage prostitutes in Florida and that if he assisted in the plan to free Mr. Levinson by giving them $25 million dollars that President Biden would supposedly issue him a pardon. The document also claimed that the White House was aware of the operation, the White House did not respond to a request for comment from the Examiner.
In addition, other documents appear to show that Matt and Don Gaetz were in contact with the FBI after they received the alleged extortion attempt.
