Democrat Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss) was the lone Democrat to stand up to Nancy Pelosi and vote against the disastrous voting reform in H.R. 1.
According to Fox News:
Thompson, of Mississippi, joined with all Republicans late Wednesday to vote against the House Democrats’ top legislative priority, known as the For the People Act of 2021.
Thompson’s vote was surprising since he was a co-sponsor of the legislation along with the rest of the Democratic caucus. But Thompson said Thursday his constituents weren’t supportive of the election overhaul, so he stood with them rather than his colleagues.
“My constituents opposed the redistricting portion of the bill as well as the section on public finances,” Thompson said in a statement to Fox News. “I always listen and vote in the interest of my constituents.”
The legislation requires states to establish independent redistricting commissions to carry out the once-a-decade redrawing of congressional districts in an effort to avoid partisan gerrymandering. The bill also establishes a new public financing system for congressional and presidential elections to incentivize small-dollar donations.
Democrats are trying to claim the bill will empower minority communities while including provisions that would disproportionately affect them.
For example, a public match program is included where donations up to $200 will be matched 6:1. This would be paid for by a 4.75% surcharge on criminal and civil penalties. Something that would disproportionately affect minority communities.
Wow! A representative that actually understands that they are there as the REPRESENTATIVE of their electorate and no because they have been deemed some super-genius, we need more of that in Congress!

H.R.1 was designed to give the Democrats a permanent advantage in EVERY future election as it codifies every dirty trick they used successfully in 2020.The bill is actually a “poison pill” for America and the Senate would be wise to can it.

So independent commissions to do redistricting will solve gerrymandering – yeah, no! My state of Arizona has gerrymandered districts now! One is in the shape of a C! It is anything but fair and the representatives do not get to represent their district as it is so split up based on race – they have to be sure every district has the same breakdown.
Also, how does charging money for criminal and civil penalties to give politicians more money make any sense! The biggest criminals are those in DC, but they never get caught or are held accountable! This is another scheme to make them rich while taking from citizens.

Who is going to sue Nancy Pelosi for gross negligence causing the wrongful dead of Ashli Babbit in the Capitol riot, she was unarmed, who gave those orders to the the Capitol police shot an unarmed person without first giving prior notice of that they will be shooting at them , violating the law.
No one is above the Law not even the POTUS, Nancy fired the experienced Capitol chief of police days before the riots and placed an inexperienced person to be in charge, refused the offer from the POTUS TRUMP to have 10,000 troops to stop riots in DC, there are multiple videos that show how the Capitol Police let the rioters in the Capitol and also guide them to the chambers then inside to ambush them and gun down an innocent person.
