Rochester, New York police officers are being allowed to cover their name tags to mitigate the threat of violence from anarchists.
Rioters confronting police in the city were using the personally identifiable information on their uniforms to find out where they live, their children’s names, where their children go to school, and even their parents’ phone numbers.
Many called in front of law enforcement to taunt their loved ones.
The Daily Wire’s Amanda Prestigiacomo reports:
“The past couple of months officers names have been researched by protesters to put personal information out to the public, putting the safety of their families in jeopardy,” said a statement from RPD Chief La’Ron Singletary, who announced his resignation earlier this week.

WHAM 1180 similarly reported Thursday on the actions from the protesters, noting that “Deputy Chief Morabito says he has seen this (harassment) happen in real time”:
City Council members questioning why Rochester Police Officers covered their names and sometimes badge numbers at the series of nightly protests were told it was for the officer’s protection.
Chief Singletary says protesters are Googling officer names and spreading information about them and their families on social media. Deputy Chief Morabito says he has seen this happen in real time, with protesters calling family members of officers right in front of them and threatening to come to their homes. He says he personally gave his officers permission to cover their name tags.
Violent protests erupted in the wake of the death of Daniel Prude. Prude succumbed about one week after losing consciousness while members of the Rochester Police Department attempted to restrain him.
WXXI News obtained a copy of the autopsy report, which stated that Prude’s death resulted from “complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint due to excited delirium due to acute phencyclidine intoxication.” Thus indicating he may have been high on PCP when officers place a spit hood over him to protect themselves from being spit on or bitten.
At that point, Prude had already smashed multiple storefront windows and ranted about being infected with the coronavirus.

Unfortunately I agree with you Patricia. They will have to see a few bodies of their own to back off. Most are bused in from other towns. If they know that they can be shot, they’ll back down. However, this should have happened on DAY TWO IN PORTLAND. Would have stopped a lot of this crap and saved a lot of business owners and their investments in these town/cities.

I think it needs to go MUCH farther than simply covering name tags and badge numbers. If one of these thugs stand in front of a police officer (NOT “cop”) they need to be shot in the face! No second chance, no “you’re under arrest”, DEAD! Moreover, ANYONE who threatens a police officer’s family, ESPECIALLY children, needs to be taken out with extreme prejudice. I support the idea of cops not being required to show their names, because the possibility of doxing and retribution to their families is great. However, they should be assigned some kind of ID number that they are required to wear, so that any overzealous cops can be identified and and corrective action taken if they abuse their authority.
Antifa members are hard to identify because they dress alike and wear masks. This anonymity gives them greater leave to misbehave. Cops are more disciplined and held to a higher standard, but they are human, too.
