Former U.S. National Guard soldier Aleksander Reed Skarlatos received universal praise for his courage in helping to stop a terror attack on a Paris-bound train with the aid of two other American servicemen and three civilians.
President Obama awarded Skarlatos with the U.S. Army’s Soldier’s Medal for his heroism that day. He also received France’s highest decoration, the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, from French President François Hollande.
Five years later, as the Republican nominee for Congress in Oregon’s 4th congressional district, Skarlatos is answering the call of duty yet again.
Hillary Clinton eked out a victory in this district over Donald Trump in 2016 by one-tenth of a percentage point. The bottom line is that despite Oregon’s bluish hue, Skarlatos can win.
