Arguably the most radical members of the clique of Freshman House Democrats known as “The Squad” face strong primary challengers that threaten their political futures.

Per Fox News:

In Minnesota’s heavily Democratic 5th Congressional District – which covers much of the city of Minneapolis and was ground zero for the nationwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd – freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing multiple challengers on the Aug. 11 primary vote, including one challenger who has dramatically outraised her.

And in Michigan’s overwhelmingly Democratic 13th Congressional District, which includes parts of Detroit and the inner suburbs of Wayne County, the Aug. 4 primary is a rematch from two years ago, as first-term Rep. Rashida Tlaib is trying to fend off Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones.

The district was held for more than half a century by John Conyers Jr., a co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus who died last year. When Conyers stepped down in 2018 amid accusations of sexual harassment, Jones briefly held the seat after narrowly edging Tlaib in a special election to fill the rest of Conyers’ term.

But Tlaib won a separate election for the new two-year term, starting in 2019. That election included six candidates. Jones, who is Black, now enjoys the support of the other four candidates from the 2018 election. Tlaib is Palestinian-American — and she made history alongside Omar in 2018 as the first two Muslim women elected to Congress (RELATED: Rashida Tlaib Headlines Anti-Semitic Conference).

Race is a prominent factor in Tlaib’s reelection since Michigan’s 13th congressional district is 56.3% black.

Although Omar has the backing of key Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), her challenger, Antone Melton-Meaux, had a second-quarter fundraising haul dwarfing Omar’s.

  3. They are trying to destroy our nation from within. They are a threat to our liberty and freedom. Our nation has survived for two hundred and fifty years. We can not let it die now.

  4. Either you get a radical extremist Democrat or a ‘Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing’ Democrat. What the hell is the difference?

  5. Political fight for their lives? How about criminal activity fight for their lives? They will go to prison for at least ten years for election fraud nds fraud and then will have their citizenship revoked and deported back to the hell holes they came from!

  6. No problem. If they lose, they’ll just blame racism and/or islamaphobia. And while they are sorry excuses for federal representatives let’s not forget that saw about the devil you know vs the one that you don’t.

  7. No anti-Americans should be allowed in the Congress. Hope the people who voted for them wake up!!!!!!!
