The nonpartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors supports a commission to study the issue of reparations for African Americans. One proposal from members of Congress that the conference’s leadership expressed interest in could cost $6.2 quadrillion.
That equates to a payout of $151 million to the living descendants of American slaves, most broadly defined as all 41 million African Americans living in the United States today.
Per the Washington Examiner:
“We recognize and support your legislation as a concrete first step in our larger reckoning as a nation, and a next step to guide the actions of both federal and local leaders who have promised to do better by our black residents,” said the letter from conference President Greg Fischer, mayor of Louisville.
Sen. Cory Booker and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee have introduced legislation to create a commission, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act.
In introducing her bill to the House last year, Jackson Lee said, “The commission aims to study the impact of slavery and continuing discrimination against African-Americans, resulting directly and indirectly from slavery to segregation to the desegregation process and the present day. The commission would also make recommendations concerning any form of apology and compensation to begin the long delayed process of atonement for slavery.”
Since then, reparations have continued to draw attention, and the issue was elevated further during the recent Black Lives Matter protests.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is currently headed by:
- President Greg Fischer (D) Mayor of Louisville
- Vice President Nan Whaley (D) Mayor of Dayton
- Second Vice President Francis X. Suarez (R) Mayor of Miami

The freed slaves of 13% of the population that owned them all received supposedly reparations of 40 acres and a mule???? If they didn’t get it or lost it or whatever, tough city. The War on Poverty was set up to help lift the black community for most part. It didn’t succeed because much of it went to the contractors providing the funds and food and programs of all sorts. It helped destroy the Black family, and that is sad and we are all paying for that. Reparations would divide the country to the point of rebellion or even civil war. End of the US.

Where would the descendants of slaves be today if their ancestors had never left the African jungles? How many of them would even know what a big screen TV is? Many of them may have never even been born. The ones that were born may have faced hunger and starvation. If they were still in Africa I bet their lives would be much different.

Even back in Civil War days, my great grandfather was a member of the Confederate Army in the state of Arkansas. He never owned a slave, my grandfathers were share croppers and my father and mother were share croppers and migrant farmers who worked like hell to make a living. They never owned a slave, in fact slavery had been over for 55 years by the time my dad was born. Ain’t no damn way I’ll ever let someone take my tax money to pay reparations. Look at all the rich black pro athelets making 600K to 20M a year, maybe they should pay out of their good fortune for being in the US and getting all the benefits. By the way, another name for reparations is welfare.
