Wisconsin Presidential Primary Postponed at the Last Minute

Another governor is effectively rescheduling the 2020 presidential primary. This time the announcement came less than 24 hours before the polls open.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) sent out a press release earlier this afternoon announcing the suspension of all in-person voting in the Badger State until June 9.

The last-minute development came after Evers confronted withering criticism over concerns that crowded polling places would cause coronavirus (COVID-19) to spread rapidly.

Mediaite’s Ken Meyer reports:

“The virus directs us as to what our decision-making is, not human beings, and clearly I am following the science, as I always have,” said Evers. “Given that, I felt that the governor is the one who has to step up and stand for those people that aren’t having their voices heard.”

Molly Beck of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel obtained her own confirmation from Evers, plus she heard that the governor expects the decision to be challenged and eventually reviewed by the Supreme Court.

“It could end up in the Supreme Court yet today but the bottom line is the people of Wisconsin, they don’t care about the fighting between Democrats and Republicans — they’re scared,” @GovEvers said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Nonetheless, the news comes as a sigh of relief among political observers worried that tomorrow’s elections could’ve been a massive safety hazard while the virus is still spreading.
