On the day the verdict was read, convicting Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for taking the life of George Floyd, politicians all across the spectrum weighed in. Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference in Washington DC, more than 1,100 miles away from the site of the murder and trial.
Wearing a mask outside, flanked by some of her Democrat colleagues, Speaker Pelosi said, “Thank you George Floyd for sacrificing your life for justice.”
There’s a lot to dissect here.
First, with this statement, Speaker Pelosi somehow implies or equates the fact that George Floyd willingly gave up his life. That’s what a “sacrifice” is. It is the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone. In many different ancient religions, a sacrifice was perhaps killing a person or animal as an offering to please God or a god. I don’t believe – nor is there any evidence to the case – that somehow George Floyd willingly gave up his life “for justice.”
What Pelosi’s statement reveals is how thankful she is that George Floyd’s life became a sacrifice – not only for justice but for her and her party to get back in power in the White House and give her more power. As Speaker of the House, the legislation she puts forward can now pass easily into the hands of a president in their own party – and not vetoed by Donald Trump.
While COVID19 and the economic lockdowns were a great hindrance to President Trump and his party holding onto the White House, the key dagger came when a white police officer murdered a black man on the streets of Minneapolis in late May. It ignited a flurry of protests and riots. America’s cities burned. Chaos was everywhere – even on social media. This pivotal moment also elevated the “Black Lives Matter” movement and organization to new heights – an organization that is Marxist in nature.
While there are very few people left in America that would disagree with the statement that “black lives matter,” there is a great divide over whether the organization that goes by that name should be elevated to such an extent. This movement only cares about causes of, by, and for the Left.
Just like the modern feminist movement, if the Black Lives Matter movement actually cared about advancing policies and winning over a vast majority of Americans, it would not be siloed on one ideological spectrum. A truly successful movement tries to win the hearts and minds of all people in society.
Instead, the “sacrifice” of George Floyd led to nearly every corporate giant embracing the Black Lives Matter organization – and by extension, the goals, and desires of the Democrat party and the progressive left-wing. It led to shaming people for not having an opinion on the matter. We all remember the scores of videos of radical black activists going up to white people on the street and making them kneel. We even made our professional athletes kneel during the playing of the national anthem. The George Floyd moment led to the tearing down of statues and the rewriting of American history. It has also led to calls to impose the racist “critical race theory” throughout our education system.
The Black Lives Matter movement made many moderates and conservatives cower in their corners during a pivotal election year. It funneled millions of dollars (by well-meaning people who truly want to help race relations) into the coffers of radical left-wing groups, the Democrat Party and Democrat candidates across the country. And to this day, the BLM movement and its “allies” bully legislatures and supervisors of elections to do all sorts of nefarious things to keep polls open longer, including making voting by mail more rampant and less regulated, and creates more opportunities for fraud and corruption. Anything less than what these bullies want is labeled “Jim Crow.”
All of this and more was made possible by the “sacrifice” of George Floyd. And Nancy Pelosi knows it. George Floyd was not a willing sacrifice. He was sacrificed by the far Left because politics has become their god. Government is their church. It is through government that all is made right and well. Like Joshua bringing down the walls of Jericho, the Left seeks to destroy the lives and rights of Americans who are not on board with their agenda.
When you are a country that loses your actual religion, the sacrificial lamb is no longer Christ, who willingly gave up His life in order to provide redemption for the sins of humanity against the Father. The sacrifice of Christ was pleasing to the Father. He did it willingly and out of love. As Christ said to his apostles, “Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends.”
There are few human beings that will willingly lay down their life for their friends. George Floyd was not one of them. George Floyd had a lot of personal problems and it is not right to speak ill of the dead. When those problems got him into trouble with the law, one of the police officers on the scene, Derek Chauvin, acted wildly inappropriately. It was later revealed that Chauvin and Floyd had a history of working together at a nightclub. Perhaps there was more to the story than one officer and one criminal.
Regardless of what happened, George Floyd did not wake up that morning thinking he would soon be a household name. I’m sure if given the opportunity, George Floyd would rather be alive today.
Instead of letting “justice” prevail in the court of law, as it concluded this week with the conviction of Derek Chauvin, some on the Left saw an opportunity in the murder of a black man to stoke racial divisions in a pivotal election year. And, most Americans were “staying at home” watching it all unfold on television. Others had their homes and businesses burned down by left-wing rioters – in cities and states that were hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away. Hundreds of other Americans, including good law enforcement officers, died in the process.
This country is losing its religion but since the beginning of time, human beings have always needed something to worship. The antireligious Left aims to bring salvation through government power and government programs. This is “justice” in their eyes. And Nancy Pelosi is thankful to George Floyd, “for sacrificing your life for justice.” It is indeed a sacrifice that is much pleasing to the real god that she worships.
