This week over 70 former Republican national security officials – including ex-CIA and FBI chiefs will formally endorse Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden. The group, called “Former Republican National Security Officials for Biden,” reports Reuters, includes some senior GOP members of the U.S. defense and intelligence establishment from Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Trump administrations.

This is not surprising considering this national security establishment has often held a failed consensus view toward managing many of the threats to America. And this same establishment – including many GOP Never-Trumpers – has been most vocal and active in undermining President Trump since before he was inaugurated.

Some call them the ‘Deep State.’ Many of them are too old to matter much, others may be vying for positions in, or influence with, a possible Biden Administration.

However, one Republican defense establishment figure who was highly critical of Trump in 2016 but probably won’t be joining the Biden 2020 bandwagon, is former Obama-Biden Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. In his 2014 memoirs Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War, Gates writes that while Joe Biden was likable on a personal level, he has: “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”

When asked in May 2019 by CBS’s “Face The Nation” host Margaret Brennan if he stood by that statement, Gates responded, as quoted by RealClearPolitics – “I think I stand by that statement.”

The full quote about Biden from his book was:

He’s a man of integrity, incapable of hiding what he really thinks, and one of those rare people you know you could turn to for help in a personal crisis. Still, I think he’s been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.

When Margaret Brennan asked Gates if Biden would he be an effective commander-in-chief? Gates replied, “I don’t know. I don’t know… I think that the vice president had some issues with the military. So how he would get along with the senior military, and what that relationship would be…I think, it… would depend on the personalities at the time.”

Meanwhile, RealClearPolitics notes Gates seemed to doubt Biden’s mental abilities at his current age. In response to Brennan’s question asking Gates if he thought Biden was right for this moment. Gates replied:

I think having a President who is somebody our age or older… is- I think it’s problematic. I think that you don’t have the kind of energy that I think is required to be President. I think– I’m not sure you have the intellectual acuity that you might have had in your sixties.

Maybe that was Gates diplomatically saying that Biden isn’t all there. But beyond his views on Biden, where does Gates stand now on Trump?

In his recent book, Exercise of Power: American Failures, Successes, and a New Path Forward in the Post-Cold War World, Gates is slightly more supportive of President Trump. When questioned in June 2020 by NBC’s Chuck Todd about whether he had changed his mind on Trump since 2016, Gates said – according to The Hill:

“I would say this, Chuck. First of all, unlike his three predecessors…at least he hasn’t started any new wars and he has robustly funded the military.”

Gates also said he supported Trump’s “outreach” to North Korea. “It hasn’t come to anything, but I thought that was a bold move, and everything else had failed in the previous 25 years,” said Gates.

Bottom line is that Gates is pretty clear that he believes Biden has been wrong on foreign policy for four decades, and may not have the mental chops to be POTUS, and that Trump has not been nearly as bad as he feared, and his critics still claim.

That is something to keep in mind as former Republican national security leaders try to sell America on Biden.

  1. Quid Pro Joe Biden should be in prison, not running for President.

    amac. us/quid-pro-quo-joe-biden-could-be-in-trouble/

It is well known now that while Biden was V.P., he strong-armed the then Ukrainian President to fire the prosecutor who was investigating his son within six hours or he wouldn’t get the billion dollars he was promised, “Son of a bitch, he was fired” Biden related recently to reporters and guests recently at a Council of Foreign Relations gathering. Biden’s son was sitting on the board of Burisma Holdings which is an oil and gas company in Ukraine and getting $85,000 a month even though he had no experience in gas, oil or energy. He was obviously there to sell influence and admitted to an ABC reporter that he had no experience and was probably there because he was Joe Biden’s son. The media from CNN’s Anderson Cooper to the anchors on MSNBC immediately jumped to Biden’s defense and called the claim “unsubstantial.”

…Unsubstantial ??? We have Biden admitting it on video what he did.

Now Fox News’ legal analyst Greg Jarrett has uncovered four federal laws Biden has broken that could land him in serious trouble.

    1)Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (15USC78dd-1)
It is illegal for a U.S. person to coerce or influence through bribery, extort a foreign into taking action that might financially benefit that person, his family or business.

    2) Bribery (18USC201b)
Whoever corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to a public official to influence that public official is guilty of bribery.

    3) Gratuities Act (180SC201)
Giving, offering, or promising anything of value to a public official in exchange for any official act is a violation of the gratuities act.

    4) Hobbs Act-Extortion (18USC 1951)
A threat to a foreign official in order to obtain an official benefit affecting interstate or foreign commerce would constitute extortion under the Hobbs act.

These are all facts about real crimes that happened!
Soooo, W.T.F. is wrong with the Justice Department??

  2. Now, it behooves the American Action News team to get this out on a larger scale for the people to know this information. Anything to help people to see the true picture of Biden’s incompetence.

  3. Gates is 100% right on how bad Biden will be as President. At the end of Gates comments about President Trump Gates is right that President Trump did turn out to be a really good President on a lot of his work in rebuilding our Military as well as President Trump’s bold move on North Korea was a good move.

  4. If for some reason you decide to vote for Biden, you must know a few things from the start, Biden is not capable to be our president for many reasons of which should be obvious. He is mentally not there and he has so many scandalous and corrupt facts are only going to get worse. It will be amazing if Biden can carry out his duties for 4 years. Therefore we will have a Harris president. That is like having a AOC president. I do not know about you but I like meat and my freedom. If Harris can not become president for any reason, some of which have been alluded to already by the press, guess who – PELOSI. Is that their plan? Maybe. Any way you slice it the USA will end as we know it. The Constitution is done, religious freedom is over, we will be worse than Venezuela. At least they could retain their faith and go to church. The dems have already made it known that they will condemn that and they even took iUNDER GOD out of the Pledge of Allegiance during the convention. Thank you Lord that I am old and will not have to deal with it long but oh Lord, I do pray for our children and grandchildren. Pray everyone for our Lord to support and heal our land.

  5. “…wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”

So Joe isn’t the best of leaders, he’s not the best of strategists, he has issues with the military, but he’s loved by ex and failed national security officials…ex CIA, ex FBI and ex defense officials. This says more about Joe than it does about the President. What I take away from this article is that Joe is not the man for the job.

  6. Not enough. Gates hedged his statements. And he was NOT honest about the details that he should have listed. IF there were forty years of ERROR, list them.

    1. Research for yourself. Then you can make an informed decision when you vote. Why do you need anyone to list for you? Quid pro Joe’s 47 years in politics is quite well documented.

  7. Joe Biden is being used by the Democrat Party as it offers an excuse when they lose the election. I have never really cared for Biden but it is plain wrong to parade him in front of the country showing off his lack of mental acuity. Also, he is up to his elbows in the corruption that took place in the Ukraine under the former administration, which is coming out soon as reported by Ukrainian officials.
