Anti-Police Protests in D.C. Turn Violent [VIDEO]

On Sunday night I was providing security support to a foreign TV news crew covering the George Floyd protests in Washington, DC across from the White House. Initially more festive than tense, as the evening wore on it became very intense, chaotic, and violent with protesters launching fireworks at police within 100 yards of the White House grounds.
Soon, black-clad agitators began smashing windows, vandalizing, and starting fires, including at one small stone structure in Lafayette Park right across from the White House. Over the next couple of hours, the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded professionally, firing tear gas, pepper spray, and flash-bang devices.
Later MPD riot police pushed out the perimeter several blocks from White House as the 11 pm curfew took effect. They also did it to allow firefighter vehicles to reach fires, which included shops, restaurants, and the headquarters of the AFL-CIO.

Additional federal forces including camouflaged FBI tactical teams were seen nearby providing support and prepared to deploy if needed.

The protest crowd Sunday night was mostly black but not exclusively. It was also dominated by far left-wing types. Communist flags and lots of graffiti were clearly visible. And there was a lot of anti-Trump sentiment.

Sadly, as these protests progress, it becomes more clear that they are as much anti-Trump as they are about George Floyd.

Some supposed ‘white’ agitators were actually Hispanics. While there were many peaceful protesters anger and violence were also strongly felt. Some protesters seemed local to DC, but others were from neighboring states such as Maryland.

At least some elements of these protests were organized, as there were support teams with water and supplies, including milk to flush out tear gas and pepper spray from eyes posted throughout the area. Meanwhile, I saw at least two protester “medics” wearing tactical helmets and vests donning red crosses carrying hurt protesters to safety.

It is the worst protest I’ve seen in DC. Let’s see what today and the next few days will produce. More to come.
