America’s self-anointed newspaper of record admitted today that its most successful terrorism reporter fell for blatantly false claims about ISIS, despite plenty of red flags.

The New York Times’ hit podcast “Caliphate” chronicled the story of an easily-manipulated westerner seduced by the terrorist organization to committing depraved acts of violence. The paper’s executive editor revealed that reporter Rukmini Callimachi and his superiors didn’t scrutinize the podcast’s primary source, who’s now facing criminal charges. (NPR)

Caliphate relayed the tale about the radicalization of a young Canadian who went to Syria, joined the Islamic State and became an executioner for the extremist group before escaping its hold.

Canadian authorities this fall accused the man, Shehroze Chaudhry, of lying about those activities. He currently faces criminal charges in a federal court in Ontario of perpetrating a terrorism hoax.

“We fell in love with the fact that we had gotten a member of ISIS who would describe his life in the caliphate and would describe his crimes,” New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet tells NPR in an interview on Thursday. “I think we were so in love with it that when when we saw evidence that maybe he was a fabulist, when we saw evidence that he was making some of it up, we didn’t listen hard enough.”

The highly produced series was announced to much fanfare in March 2018 at the South By Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas, as a worthy successor to the paper’s hit news podcast, The Daily.

“Caliphate” previously won universal acclaim from the left for its compelling content.

  1. I don’t believe nor trust any news except for OneAmericaNewsNetwork OANN.com they are the ONLY news vehicle that tells the truth.

  2. Paper didn’t listen hard enough because they were making money off what he was making up. Fake News = false reporting. A good reporter, a good journalist, works off the Who What Where & Why to report only the facts. Once your source is found lying to you, stop! Isn’t there a reporter out there with ethics?

    1. Reporters are in it for the money. They write what they are told to write. And if they don’t, they get fired. Look and see how many conservatives they hire at the NYT or the Washington Post. It is NOT about the truth. It is about propagandizing the people to believe what the OWNERS of those rags want them to believe.
Horowitz was an exception. He actually looked at the facts and decided that the LEFT was corrupt and what they were working for was NOT the Good of America.

  3. They could use almost every word in this report, just change appropriately to democrats, Steele Dossier, etc. They fell for that hoac, to, but I have not seen a retraction or apology.

  4. The retraction on blatant fake news only came because it did not involve the fake news shew spew out about trump and Russia. Agree with writers here that OANN and Newsmax are the preferred outlets for news and investigations. I only listen to FOX News now when certain people are on, such as Mark Lavin, Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Jeanine Pirro.

  5. Proving that the NY Times, like many left wing media companies, are as biased and fake news as can be. I’m surprised that they even issued a retraction.

  6. is this a surprise to anyone who is not a rabid leftist worshipper of the NYT? Of course they fell for a lie. They would prefer to believe a lie as to believe the truth. That is because of WHO their master is. SATAN. And yes, I can make that claim because no matter how many times they get caught, they will DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.
They had rather believe a lie than the truth. Like believing that Trump is horrible and done damage to the country. Yet no matter how many times you ask them for detailed FACTS, they can’t give you a single one. NO SHAME? But they will be ashamed. When they stand before God and He demands answers.
