An investigative report by the New York Post’s Michael Goodwin alleges that the original owner of the New York Times, Adolph Ochs, a Confederate sympathizer, had relatives that included slaveowners and perhaps slave traders. (New York Post)

Adolph Ochs’ own “Southern sympathies” were reflected in the content of the Chattanooga Times, the first newspaper he owned, and then the New York Times. The latter published an editorial in 1900 saying the Democratic Party, which Ochs supported, “may justly insist that the evils of negro suffrage were wantonly inflicted on them.”

All that would be bad enough given that the same family still owns the Times and allows it to become a leader in the movement to demonize America’s founding and rewrite history to put slavery at its core. As part of that revisionism, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln are suddenly beyond redemption, their great deeds canceled by their flaws.

However, Goodwin has since uncovered evidence that Ochs’s mother, Bertha, had an uncle who owned at least five slaves. Based on census records, Bertha likely lived with him for part of that time.

Separately, there is also compelling evidence that the brother of a Revolutionary War-era ancestor of the Sulzberger branch of the family was involved in the slave trade.

His name was Abraham Mendes Seixas, and he was born in New York City in 1750. He was an officer in the Continental Army during the war, then stayed in South Carolina, where accounts describe him as a slave merchant and/or auctioneer.

    1. There is no case for reparations. Nobody alive in this country ever owned a slave and no person alive in this country ever was a slave. End of story!

  1. Typical of democrats and their coverup is far worse than the crimes Ochs commuted! The NYT should be shutdown TODAY!

  2. Okay, let’s say this is absolutely true and Ochs had relatives who had slaves and there was some uncle who his mother lived with for a time and all that. But what does that make OCHS himself guilty of? That would be like if my uncle robbed a bank. Would that make ME a bank robber? Would that make ME guilty of ANYTHING, other than having relatives I wouldn’t want to brag about? You can have a crappy family but that does not make you guilty of their behavior just because you are related.

    1. No. It’s already written in the DNC requirements. If you are NOT a member of the DNC you are guilty of everything.

  3. Very interesting, but the sins of the ancestor
have nothing “relevant” to do with today unless,
    …a descendant…pulls the self-righteous act.
I’ll let someone else decide re: the NY Post.

  4. Everyone needs to remember that New York is named after the Duke of York …. who was a KNOWN Slave Trader……

  5. This is old news! Most rich & successful men who lived ‘back in that day, back then, had or owned ‘some-kinda slaves’ remember this was the age of the robber-barons… That being said, the NYT was always an anti-American-rag, pushing ‘Soviet-style-propaganda run by demon(c)rats lusting after power!

  6. Blacks and whites have never gotten along and will never get along under any circumstances in America, they will never feel free in America. Whites brought them here it’s whites responsibility to take them back to their mother land. The sooner the better for all and they will be “free at last, free at last, Lord God almighty, free at last!”

    1. v Steve I agree with you, but I would say NOT all blacks are bad, there are some good black Americans who are better than white DemocRATS. Send the ones who are not happy in America, like BLM lot.
