The Democrat Governor of Oregon Kate Brown signed a new anti-gun bill into state law on Tuesday which bans guns from being carried legally inside the state capitol as well as enacting draconian requirements for firearm ‘storage’ which citizens are now required to adhere to.
As The Hill reports:
“Today, I am signing SB 554 with the hope that we can take another step forward to help spare more Oregon families from the grief of losing a loved one to gun violence,” Brown tweeted.
The bill also requires individuals to secure firearms at home with a trigger or cable lock and to keep them in either a locked container or gun room except for “specified circumstances.”…
Opponents of the bill argued that the delay in accessing firearms could cost lives.
Sheridan, Ore., resident Jim Mischel related in a written testimony how in 1981 his wife was unable to reach her handgun that was locked in a gun box in time before an intruder threatened her with a gun.
It appears that the bill is an attempt to destroy the second amendment in everything but name effectively making it nearly impossible for a law-abiding citizen to reach their gun in an emergency.

Chief justice Roberts a conservative has five of the nine justices in his conservative pocket. It is not a liberal court by any means. Why does it worry you? I doubt the law can survive a challenge based on the McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010) SCOTUS Decision. That ruling stated that the right to SELF DEFENSE applied to the States as well as the federal government due to the 14th Amendment and the Incorporation Doctrine.
A gun with a trigger lock in a safe is not a weapon of SELF DEFENSE, it’s a curio or sporting device. Nor is it a weapon meant as Justice Joseph Story said to prevent government tyranny – such as that being implemented by the State of Oregon.
The SCOTUS could and should say enough is enough. The 2nd Amendment meant what the Framers said it meant. That would mean all restrictive gun (WEAPONS) laws against sane law abiding citizens are unconstitutional. Then as Stephen above implied, well…

I hope it’s appealed to the SCOTUS to be decided in light of their District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago Decisions. It just could invalidate most, if not all, restrictive gun laws nationwide if the SCOTUS has the integrity and courage to rule according to what the Constitution says according to the Framers.

The sad part out of this, is that the State of Oregon’s leadership has chosen to overreach their authority by placing unnecessary restrictions on law abiding citizens, by trying to criminalize those citizens who lawfully own firearms. Yet, they are incompetent when it comes to creating legislation that would curtail or adequately punishment criminals that use firearms to break the laws and commit crimes.
When you have strong law and order there is less of a chance where individual citizens would have a need to protect themselves with firearms.
A little research would prove you wrong when it comes to self protection with the use of firearms! There are many cases where a criminal’s career has been terminated because the individual they attacked was armed! If you truly want to stop crimes with firearms, the punishment for such crimes, must be more severe than the acts committed by the armed criminals! The definition of a career criminal is someone who has a life long history of committing crimes, mostly in the possession of a firearm. That can be resolved if the states and cities wanted to do so. In every state and city where they are soft on crime, there is more crime, where their DA’s and Judges do not fully enforce the laws! That’s easy enough to research but you won’t, because the truth isn’t as important as your narrative.
In your perfect world, where no one was allowed to own or possess a firearm, do you really think that would stop crime or people killing other people? If you have any knowledge of history, you would know that conquest during the dark ages, slaughtered countless innocent lives without the use of a single firearm! They didn’t have them back in that time period!
And, of course, the first guns they will try to confiscate will be those of known criminals. Right?

How are they going to enforce this new law requiring trigger locks on all weapons in private homes? They defunded the police and there’s not enough enforcement to insure legal compliance. First, they must have a reasonable cause for a search warrant, unless they have now bypassed that process to allow for a search to secure without warrants. That would be ironic, they have defunded the police, and now turned Oregon State into a non-police state! So, who will they send out to enforce compliance? State Social workers? So if you are a law bidding, registered gun owner in Oregon, you can look forward to the unannounced visit from a State official to verify compliance to SB 554!
