A high-profile Democrat lobbyist who was allegedly entangled in a $60 million dollar bribery probe, Neil Clark, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Florida on Monday.
Clark’s body was reportedly found in a pond by a bicyclist, his death has since been officially ruled a suicide.
As The Tampa Bay Times reports:
When officials reached out to the man’s wife, she said the couple was having financial issues and that she had not heard from her husband for a couple of hours, according to the report.
Clark, 67, had pleaded not guilty in August over an alleged role in a $60 million scheme in which federal prosecutors say FirstEnergy companies funneled money through a network of dark money entities to then-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder in exchange for the passage of a $1 billion nuclear bailout bill.
As the Cincinnati Enquirer notes, Clark was no stranger to corruption:

After graduating, Clark worked as the finance director for the Ohio Senate Republicans and once teamed up with Paul Tipps, former head of the Ohio Democratic Party, to form the bipartisan lobbying firm State Street Consultants in the mid-1980s. They split in a messy falling out and Clark formed Grant Street Consultants in 2009.
Clark was no stranger to scandal. He was part of the so-called “pancaking” scheme in the 1990s, which involved giving lawmakers multiple $500 checks for speaking at events. Clark represented payday lenders while proposals to restrict them were at the heart of a scandal that led former Ohio Speaker Cliff Rosenberger to resign.
“I have never in my life been one of those individuals that has been readily gracious to others,” Clark told Columbus Monthly in 2004. “I’m not looking for public.
Clark was reportedly planning to publish a book detailing his years in politics in 2021.
