Violent crime surged in cities that held defund the police and Black Lives Matter protests during 2020, outpacing the murder rates from 2019 by astonishing percentages. Criminologist Jeff Asher analyzed data from 57 locations and found that 51 of the cities’ homicide rates rose significantly in 2020.
