Like everything else in contemporary American life, politics has infected our response to the pandemic.

We shouldn’t be surprised given the other virus that’s affected roughly one-half of the population: Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Because leftists are inherently loud and backed by the liberal media industrial complex, some on the right are intimidated into complying with their policy prescriptions, like keeping schools closed indefinitely. But they shouldn’t be.

Writing for the Daily Caller, Dan Backer explains how all of us can take a page out of the Trump playbook and strike back at the left’s fearmongering.

After Education Secretary Betsy DeVos had the audacity to suggest “kids have got to get back to school,” Rep. Ayanna Presley responded, “I wouldn’t trust you to care for a house plant, let alone my child.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also took turns blasting DeVos’ proposal.

But hers is the only reasonable position to take. School-age children have been cooped up at home for too long. No one thinks they’re really learning. No one thinks it benefits their mental, physical or emotional well-being — or that of their parents. And no one thinks the economy can truly get started again without reopened schools.

DeVos’ position is also on the side of science. Let’s be clear: The COVID-19 pandemic poses a risk to us all. To keep calm and carry on doesn’t eliminate risk — life always presents risk, no matter how much we try to mitigate it. However, school-age children are the least vulnerable members of American society, in terms of contracting and spreading the coronavirus to others. According to a recent Dutch study, the virus is primarily being spread between adults and from adult family members to children — not the other way around.

It’s no wonder that DeVos’ position was backed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which represents 67,000 U.S. pediatricians. According to the AAP’s guidance, “All policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.”

Writing an op-ed for USA Today, infectious disease epidemiologist and economist Blythe Adamson further detailed how fear has driven the campaign to keep schools closed.

As a father of two girls in New York City’s public school system, Adamson appreciates where concerned parents are coming from. Their fear can be mitigated through the knowledge that children are not only the least susceptible to COVID-19; they are not the primary spreaders. To mitigate the exceedingly rare chance of a super spreading adult infecting kids, require face masks in hallways and at large assemblies, keep windows open when weather permits, and have parents outside the building as much as possible. Common sense can still prevail.

o Use Kahn Academy & Connections Academy
    More can be done

  2. So what is the deal about opening school? Did they close school for the last twenty years for FLU?/???? Of course not. And opening school is not about health of the kids now. It is about disrupting all of our lives as much as possible in order to cause anxiety and turmoil so they will vote Trump out of office and put BRAIN DEAD Biden in. What is terrifying is WHO Biden or the elite who tell Biden who to chose for VP. You see, Biden won’t make it far at all. He will be removed from office as incompetent. And we will be stuck with a flaming liberal female who takes orders from those same elite.
Facts: Low percentage of kids get corona.
Very low percentage of kids die from corona.
The drugs available, including chloro hydronquinine or whatever it is, DO save lives.
Even the teachers are not of the group that are at risk of dying from corona. But those same teachers are shaking in their boots because of the lies put out by the media
Europe and Scandinavia have already opened their schools back up.
Only Democrat controllled cities report high numbers of sick, dead and hospitalized That is because of FALSE POSITIVES and counting deaths caused by other diseases in order to control the minds of weak minded godless. Who fears dying? Those who KNOW they are going to hell.
