One of our biggest concerns…

Many are raising concerns over their pets amid this outbreak as reports have come out with animals getting sick from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Consequently, the CDC has released a set of guidelines for how to keep your pets as safe as possible. Here is how you can keep your pets safe during the COVID-19 pandemic:

Can You Catch COVID-19 From Animals?

According to the CDC, there is no evidence to suggest that domesticated animals, mainly pets, play a role in spreading the virus to people. They did not state that animals can not catch the virus but they are saying that it is unlikely at this point that your pets will give you COVID-19.

Can You Get Your Pet Tested?

Testing for COVID-19 is available for pets but the CDC is not recommending it at this time. This is due to the fact that the CDC does not consider common house pets to be a major carrier for the virus.

Can You Take Your Pet for a Walk?

It is still advised to take your dog or other pet out for a walk, although social distancing rules should still be applied as a matter of personal safety. The CDC is recommending that if you take your dogs out for a walk you should avoid letting other people pet your pet.

Are Shelter Animals Safe?

Many are curious as to whether or not animals from shelters are safe to pick up and adopt. According to the CDC, they are safe to adopt and rescue! That said, one might find issues coming to get an animal from a shelter while most of the country is still shut down.

Can Pets Carry the Virus on Their Fur?

While bacteria and other germs can be carried on the fur of animals there is no evidence that suggests viruses can. This means that any pets you have should be unable to spread the coronavirus on their fur.
