Pope Francis issued a radical statement that effectively banned Catholics from attending the traditional Latin mass, a move many saw as a direct attack on conservatives within the church.

As MSN reports:

Pope Francis on Friday directly reversed a signature liturgical decision of Pope Benedict XVI, moving to strongly limit use of the old Latin Mass and spurring anger from church traditionalists.

The pope, whose tenure has been characterized by deep church divisions and conservative opposition, said in a letter that his new ruling was a step “in defense of the unity of the Body of Christ.” He suggested that those who favored the old Latin Mass had been exploiting the rite as a way to “reinforce the divergences, and encourage disagreements that injure the Church.”

Francis’s move will not change church services for the majority of the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics, who are largely familiar with the modern Mass — shaped amid church reforms of the 1960s — that is recited in the local language, not Latin.

But many traditionalists remain champions of the old Latin Mass, a liturgy that dates back more than a millennium and has become a central point in church divisions in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, which ended in 1965.

Francis has long been an enemy of conservatives and has in the past criticized border controls and praised socialism.

So if he’s so against borders, let’s send all of the world’s refugees to Vatican City and HE can look after the masses (pun intended)! What an arrogant thing for him to say and do! Doesn’t seem very pope-like.

And Pope John Paul II celebrated the Novus Ordo and he did not encourage reinstating the TLM. Hmmm?

Remember when this pope demonized “unfettered capitalism”? (Even though capitalism is heavily regulated; there is no country that practices “unfettered capitalism.”)

Capitalism has lifted far more people out of poverty than the church has. His capitalism-bashing proves that he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the poor. If he did, he would direct the church to work hand-in-hand with capitalists to deliver a knockout punch to poverty.

Instead, he alienates capitalists, causing them to be less charitable than they otherwise would be.

He isn’t the Pope. It’s clear that Benedict was forced out against his will. Do you see the people this fake Pope hangs out with. All immoral people who favor abortion and every other sin. Gates, Fouci, Jeffrey Sacks, George Soros, the list goes on. Yet Fr Altman and all the priests who are traditionalist’s get booted out of the positions and can no longer say Mass. You see these Priests were getting people invigorated and were spreading Jesus’s Gospel not NWO bullshit.

Gerard, you have it right! This communist is not the true Pope! The hierarchy of our church has been rotting away for decades, and is infested with the so-called Vatican Mafia. They’re the ones that “elected” this false prophet! The entire world (including the U.S.) is going through a massive purge at this point in history, and when it’s done, there will be massive amounts of evil spirits that go to “meet their Maker”. I think Bergoglio will be one of them! Hell is going to become much more populated in the next few years.

I think we should leave it up to God to judge anyone – including Pope Francis. I guess that you would have to include Pope John Paul II in the group you believe are in hell ( even though he is a Saint ) since our Church has been rotting away for decades. He lived in those decades. As does Pope Benedict XVI.

We Catholic believe the Pope is selective by the Cardinals in Rome. That is when we see white smoke after secret voting. It is tuff to walk the walk if you cannot talk the talk.

He isn’t really the pope , the pope is to follow the scriptures and act as Jesus ‘s emissary he is not doing that he’s leaning toward abortion, which is murder I don’t know how he can look at himself in the mirror, next he’ll probably let joe Biden take the communion which goes against Christ’s doctrine also accept homos into the church when scripture says if a man sleeps with another man he should be killed , they have to repent and it goes on & on he blesses what our lord condemns he is a false prophet which we were educated about in our Bible , don’t be fooled , JESUS is on the throne

Pope Francis is leaning towards abortion? I don’t think so!!
This site is getting stranger and stranger.
As I recall, the Pope is elected. No Pope applies for the job. He has to walk the walk because he is chosen. He is also a human being just like you and me. Every Pope has had a confessor.

What about the role of the Holy Spirit in the Catholic Church? Have you forgotten about the Holy Spirit?

Supposedly, years ago a doctrine of popish infallibility in spiritual decisions was put in place. At the time, I said to myself, “How silly, you can’t legislate infallibility!” I think that church fathers believe that Catholics are still uneducated serfs in the middle ages, who will believe anything they say. Absolute power corrupts, absolutely. An institution like the powerful, wealthy Church of Rome started early, back in the 3rd or 4th century AD, when Pope Gregory the someteenth and Emperor Constantine made an agreement to make Christianity the Church of Rome, only with some reservation as to what was taught and practiced. After that time there have been some very holy popes and some very secular ones who’ve used their position to gain more wealth and power along with corruption. Back in the dark ages they began telling priests that they could no longer marry and have families. The papacy’s excuse was that priests should dedicate their lives to God and their parishioners. I believe that the real reason to do away with priest families was because they wanted to keep more money in the Vatican bank and it cost to support their spouses and children. In life, with so much graft, lying and corruption surrounding us, I believe we must forget what they say and instead look at what the do an at the results of their action or inactions. We must counter evil in all its forms with strong will and goodness with God’s help.

I just feel this Pope Francis is not a true Christian he is surrounded with evil cardinals who are homosexuals a d own mansions they should be condemned and any priest who believes in abortion should be stripped not the good proests like Fr. Altman who teaches God’s truth.

Where did you get this information that the Pope is not opposed to abortion?
Scratching my head.
And you don’t think the Pope is even a Christian? Who comes up with this ridiculous stuff?

I would be careful about what I accuse people of in open comments.
I hope the people circulating this misinformation realize that they are engaging in gossip, possibly slander and definitely aiming to ruin a person’s reputation. I believe that is sinful in the eyes of Our Lord, having been a practicing Catholic long before the Novus Ordo.

Papal infallibility was declared by in the first Vatican Council, in the name of the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church, in the middle of the 19th century; it’s about as official as anything in this world.

But it is severely restricted to situations having to do with doctrines of faith or morals, done “ex cathedra”: the Pope is making a solemn declaration in his official capacity as the guardian of the Catholic Church. What Pope Francis has done about the Latin Mass is a mere motu proprio. That means that it was done on his own initiative, and is merely a legal edict, and done whether the reasons for it were valid or not.

It is generally accepted that there have been only two, and at most three, invocations of papal infallibility since it was announced back in the 19th century: Mary’s immaculate conception, Mary’s assumption body and soul into heaven [like Elijah in the Old Testament] and John Paul II’s announcement that the Catholic Church has not been divinely authorized to make women priests. [There has been some disagreement about that third example.]

Are you unaware of the major split that separated the Eastern Church from the Western Church in 1054?
Each Rite excommunicated the other.
You might want to read up on this disastrous split and find out the reasons it occurred.

Sorry, but he allowed Pachamama in the Vatican, named corrupt people to cardinal’s positions, and creates ambiguities in Catholic teachings that have been crystal-clear for centuries. We had very bad popes before- like the Borgias, so a pope can certainly be a bad one.

No, Francis is an anti-Church fraud; we have had only two legitimate Popes since the death of Pius XII, in 1958; the two were St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Thankfully John Paul was allowed to serve till the end of his life and he did great things for our Church; Benedict was “forced” to retire early. Do the research, starting with the “first” successor to Pius XII, discover why the successor immediately resigned (by force) and was replaced with our first socialist fraud. It is a lengthy search, but everyone should do it. You will quickly realize the Vatican was invaded by communism in the early 1950’s; that alone made me have doubts about the “cause” of Pius XII’s passing! Sure, I could be way off base, but my gut tells me differently. I will never give up on the Church; it may give up on me, but God never will.

The people who run the Church are only Human and are sinners. Jesus created the Holy Roman Catholic Church and man can never destroy Her. Once people realize that they can see that the Church is alive and well just going through a bad time. The TLM will never die. If it has to be said under ground then so be it. Good Priest’s like Fr Altman will say the TLM without the approval of the Vatican.

Here is a beautiful quote from St. Paul describing Our God:
“ In him we live and move and have our being. “

These were not St. Paul’s own words. Does anyone know where St. Paul found these most beautiful words?
I would be interested to hear if anybody can tell me.
I already know. You would be surprised.
