Military activity is heating up between the U.S. and Russia across the globe. From tactical vehicle clashes in Syria to Russian warships disrupting U.S. fishing fleets near Alaska, and submarine and bomber activities on both sides, the chances for escalation are increasing daily.

One U.S. move – especially – provoked a reckless Russian reaction when Russian Su-27 jet fighters flew dangerously close to a U.S. B-52 bomber over the Black Sea.

These Russian fighters flew so close to the B-52 that their afterburners reportedly shook the massive U.S. bomber.

WATCH:

This was one of the most reckless and dangerous stunts the Russians have pulled yet. But why did the U.S. send a B-52 over the contentious Black Sea? With the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Black Sea has become increasingly more dangerous.

It is essentially a Russian military stronghold, filled with Russian warships and fighters, and surrounded by Russian air-defenses.

While that B-52 flight was part of a bigger U.S. bomber show of force across all of Europe and North America, the Black Sea B-52’s mission may have been more specific.

As David Axe at Forbes writes,” on Aug. 22 flew six B-52s from Minot [U.S. Air Force base in North Dakota] to the Royal Air Force base at Fairford. The bombers flew over the Arctic—where the Russian navy recently staged a mock amphibious landing—around the same time as a rarely-seen U.S. Navy submarine, USS Seawolfalso passed under the North Pole ice.”

Then, adds Axe, on Aug. 28, on a separate mission, “six U.S. Air Force B-52 bombers from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota flew over all 30 NATO countries in a single day. Yes, even Canada.”

The earlier six B-52s flying out of the U.K. split up, one flew over NATO’s Nordic members, another B-52 flew over the Baltic area, while a third bomber flew over Portugal and Spain.

Along the way, Axe notes, a “dizzying array of alliance fighters—British Typhoons, French Mirage 2000s, Belgian F-16sCzech Gripens, Romanian and Croatian MiG-21s, Bulgarian MiG-29s, Italian F-35s—joined up with the bombers.”

Meanwhile, another B-52H headed for the Black Sea, but it wasn’t alone; two U.S. Air Force RC-135V/W Rivet Joints four-engine electronic-intelligence gathering aircraft were nearby. Their mission? To use their sensitive electronic receivers to capture and help catalogue, Russian air defense and control radar emissions and other sensitive Russian electronic emissions.

As Axe notes that, “the U.S. Air Force has just 17 RC-135V/Ws. Committing two of them to a single mission … is a big deal.” The aggressive and reckless Russian Su-27 jet fighter response, along with myriad of other Russian air defense efforts, Axe adds — “likely handed the RC-135V/Ws lots of interesting data.”

    1. And which town in the USA would you sacrifice for doing such a thing? It is easy to think there is no cost for do but thing such a thing but if you are all powerful, but we are not. Think you have head screwed on the wrong way.

      1. We are all powerful ! That is the only reason China and Russia have not attacked the USA.
If we had stayed on course with Obama’s regimen of tearing down our military the afore mentioned countries , China and Russia would attack the United States and we would lose that conflict hands down.
Thank God for President Donald John Trump.

        1. Alan – what’s your reasoning in saying Russia or China would want to attack the US, before the military has been built up under Trumps leadership? Even before, what could they gain by attacking? Do you mean attacking US homeland or do you mean something more like Russia intervening militarily in eastern Ukraine, like a US “interest” as they call it? Or China intervening in Hong Kong? Is that what you mean or do you mean the US homeland, or both? Unless it’s something right on their border or the border of an ally, initiated by the US, I don’t see them attacking, I don’t think they want to spend their money on that, they are not a rich country, what are they going to do with an unending war with the US? There’s nothing in it for them. China’s only hope for global influence is economic. China is a poor country, trying to change that, they want their people to buy in. The better the living standard, the more improved, the more loyal the public, just like in the US. China doesn’t benefit from an expensive war with the US. Only the US has been rich enough to be able to afford unwinnable wars with no exit strategy. There are people who benefit a lot from those wars but not regular Americans. Russia & China have shown no sign of wanting that. China has no hope of competing in an arms race with the US, it will never be their strong suit. Russia loses any military conflict with US, US forced them to use up their resources on military spending & arms race until 90s so they were unable to build a good living standard for their people, & compete globally at their best economic potential, contributing to human progress in science & technology, like the progress they contributed to in space exploration. In his campaign the outsider Trump advocated pulling back from the Obama policy of re-militarizing US/Russia relations, putting ballistic missiles on the Russian border, in Poland, forcing Russia to counter militarily, Russia doesn’t want that, it’s the old Cold War approach, apparently led by Hillary Clinton & that whole faction of dominant Republicans & Democrats. It’s not good for Russian or American people, but that powerful faction doesn’t care about us. Trump called them out in his campaign, he advocated working diplomatically with Russia, emphasizing shared interest, which are so many, and especially making lives better for the people of both countries. Trump campaigned: “let Russia handle Syria, it’s someone else’s turn, we’ve paid more than enough, I want to bring Americans home, invest our money in us.” This scared the heck out of the faction that’s dominated US foreign policy since the 50s. He called them the deep state, using fake media to prevent change to policies that will benefit us. This faction is the enemy of trump & vice versa, & when he won, they hit him with all their barrels except assassination. They blocked him but he is in their way, in the way of the regime changes they were racking up so fast, trump did that, he stopped the momentum. At least he gave us & the world this much. It will be a miracle if he gets another term. Otherwise back to more of the same. Keep praying.

      2. I tried to upvote this sane comment. It had a 1 showing in red. Ive never saw this article & comments until just now. When I clicked on the plus sign to agree with your comment, I got a notice in red saying ‘you’ve already commented on this’. I tapped again & the #1 in red that was here when I first tried to click the plus sign disappeared. Anyway thanks for your comment, a little light in a dark sea of fear mongered disinformed thinking.

Trump has called this out since long before he was president. He has explicitly advocated a sane US foreign policy. He’s been powerfully attacked by what he has aptly called the deep state. The faction that has dominated US intelligence throughout my life, going back to Eisenhower’s warnings about these factions in his 1960 Farewell address, going back to that faction opposing Kennedy’s exec order to pull US out of Vietnam effectively immediately, to be complete by the end of 1964, Kennedy didn’t live to see 1964, he died shortly after issuing that executive order to withdraw. Militarist globalist LBJ tossed Kennedy’s order in a drawer, & did what the now long dominant faction wanted, pouring US military & tax dollars into Vietnam, ruining the lives of countless Americans continuing as Nixon from that same faction, Nixon who led the Bay of Pigs planning with Allen Dulles/CIA, to those guys Kennedy wasn’t supposed to win, it was a disaster for their agenda.

They had a problem, Kennedy was popular & could not be allowed a second term. Kennedy showed independence of them, courage. Not acceptable. Not one of them.

Trump is an outsider. He lived through all of this, he’s a little older than me. He’s been calling it out throughout the campaign & he tries to keep getting them in. I think they are waiting to see if he gets a second term. If he does, I think his life is at risk & he knows it. He’s shown a lot of courage. Most Republicans are global expansionists on foreign policy, trump is out there alone, the state knows it. Trump has shown courage & leadership. If allowed to live, he would regular Americans to begin to think in new ways about foreign policy. Those who dominate American thinking now & have since the 50s, as Eisenhower warned of, the US media, the voice of the state, as trump has called them out about, the voice of that dominant ruling faction in intelligence, people who lead & find military atrocities, people who lie to fear monger the regular people whose support is needed, trump challenges that, no other US president has, since Kennedy, & Eisenhower did call it out as he went out the door & passed the baton to Kennedy. This isn’t about party, this is about factions who have a focused serious foreign policy agenda for the past 70 years & don’t intend to give up that dominance now. They successfully lie to Americans & they get what they want, hey everybody, Iraq has WMD!! Trust us, no need to ask questions, your trusted authorities are telling you all you need to know, trust them! George w bush, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, don Rumsfeld & respected moderate Colin Powell. So just follow along, look to the New York Times & all its imitators, above the fold every day, selling you on WMD, what’s to question!! Come on little sheep, we’ll keep you safe and free, the cost in dollars, you won’t even feel, just add it national debt, see!! Cool huh? Now Iraq as a country is destroyed—that is an atrocity, but most Americans have no idea, they trust their leaders. Those that don’t trust bush & Cheney trust Clinton, Obama & the New York Times. Their unquestioned leaders. Trump threw a big interruption into all that, talking about getting US out of Mid East, and how bad US has been for the region, opening it up for al qaida & then ISIS, lying all the way and US people just following along, trusting one party or the other, blinded to how it’s not about party, the parties are tools to bring the public along, it’s been like this for 7 decades. Pretty powerfully done, they control the tool, they dominate the state. It doesn’t matter which party. Trumps eyes are open, a very smart guy. If he gets a second term, which would be an answer to prayer, he wouldn’t be beholden to any party. That makes him so dangerous. A lot is stacked against him winning. A lot was stacked against him in 2016 too. His win was impressively smart. He’s a great competitor. The power against him depends is scary but not surprising. When he won in 2016, I got tears of gratitude in my eyes & he has not disappointed me. There have been no more ‘regime change’ atrocities for 4 years, although the pressure on him, including from militarist globalist Republicans has been extreme. He’s a strong guy. Obama caved early in his first term, giving it to Hillary & the dominant faction of the CIA, destroying the country of Libya, giving it to ISIS, with no opposition from US people, they trust their leaders, the state had that covered, they have Republicans & Democrats, whatever is your favorite flavor, they will all tell you “Assad has to go, he’s killed 500,000 of his own people, trust us, we won’t steer you wrong, we’re the most moral people in the world & we need to help the poor little Libyan against gaddafi, leading from behind, just a little collateral damage, now we go to Syria to help our wonderful Saudi autocrat police state friends, to get rid of the nasty dictator Assad, we never support dictators, saudis? Well they’re not real dictators, don’t worry kids, were always the good guys, that’s just who we are , setting other people free right & left, if ISIS took over Libya & Iraq, we cant help that. We can’t be all things to all people, we’ll just pay a bunch of Syrians to join this new political group we created, we named it Free Syrian Army, you like that name little ones ? Our ad agencies told us it was perfect. You won’t even notice all the pro Saudi Islamic radicals who are joining. We will just recognize FSA as the legit government of Syria & take them to the UN that we are paying for & all our friends & clients will recognize them too! Voila, regime change nice & neat, & then when all those bad Syrians who want Assad & don’t want our FSA to rule them, we’ll impose a no fly zone & it’ll only take a year or less to tie up all the loose ends. Isn’t regime change cool! American love freeing other people, just put it on the national debt, painless, & if those people don’t accept the nice government we made for them, we’ll theyre just ungrateful for our innate American generosity . Trump doesn’t play this. He plays but he’s playing with other goals. He wants to help the US be a better country, the good people they really want to be, spend our money here & build, stop paying to destroy & lie about it. Fake media, fake America, that’s what we need freedom from. Trump is the only chance I’ve seen in my life time. Bad guys always win with lies & manipulation. They seem too strong to defeat to me, but Trump has still been a win no matter what happens. A real win. Wow

    1. Yep, like the 17 spy. Agencies that didn’t see the jihadists hit the world trade Center. Our government is full of feckless boobs only there for their own profit. China totally infiltrate colleges, government and industry right in plain sight stealing national secrets. What is the DEA doing allowing tons of drugs to enter the USA. You would think they would attack the source. All we have are government employees on the job for a retirement & bennys. How is it we have a marxist org attacking cities looting burning and using commercial grade pyrotechnics against the police and civilians. Where is the FBI, ATF, US Marshal? These marxist terrorists are crossing state lines to commit mayhem. Which is a federal crime.
All this crap going on in the USA is the government’s fault. Not the president’s but the deep state employees.

      1. There are answers to these questions, I hope Americans can see how they’re being played. The government is not your friend. They represent the 3M company who’s loyalty is to China. It’s not because China is dominating them. 3M is doing it for themselves, their interests, it’s working great for them. They aren’t loyal to Americans, when Americans have needed quality 3M N95 masks to wear so that the economy would not have needed indefinite shut down, 3M refuses to sell them to Americans, other countries sure, that’s who they sell them to, countries who aren’t shut down & locked down, some only briefly, then back to normal, freedom. This is just one example of one “US” multinational, these companies are the US state, they operate globally & US government works for them. No one is protecting us, we have no national security, no one represents us. Trump is an outsider, best real US leader I’ve seen in my lifetime, the state has limited him a lot, remember when trump tried to get N95 masks for us under the emergency authorization act & 3M just told him no? They had good reasons, they would’ve had to break UN unbreakable (WFOE) contract with China. China upheld their end of the bargain & 3M has done great, they can’t break that contract. Their government who works for them supported them. Not in American interests. Nobody is representing us. Look up WFOE China 3M. China needs masks really bad, they have so many people & so much pollution, need to keep health care costs down, they are a big producer of masks in their cheap factories & low paid overworked workers, they’ll sell us those, but they get to buy the high quality 3M masks, not us. We’re gradually being turned into 3rd world. But those who own our country are doing great, we depend on them. Since they rule, we should start demanding they do a better job covering our interests

  1. Now w2hat some do not seem to understand how much of a dangerous game this is that Russia is playing, Russia has always been a bully on the Block since about 1600 and are not about to slow down they want the countries which made up the USSR back as it was, they need the money from those countries to boost the Russian oligarchs which Putin is one of, now one of the richest men in the world.
Now the US is not the only country with nukes set to automatically deploy upon attack by any other nuclear country.

  2. What’s with all the provocation between us and the Russians? Our biggest enemy is China, and Russia’s too, they just don’t know it yet. But they will.
