North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un outlawed dog ownership and has ordered authorities to seize family pets in the nation’s capital. Owners fear that their cherished animals are being used to supply food to the starving nation.
In July, the ruler announced that pet dogs represented Western ‘decadence,’ stating that they symbolized “a tainted trend of bourgeois ideology,” and has since banned pet ownership.

Authorities have been pinpointing households with family dogs and forcibly removing them. The pups are then either euthanized, sent to state-run zoos, or peddled to dog meat restaurants.
Dog meat is considered a delicacy in Korea, with over one million farm-raised pooches consumed annually in the South. Though feasting on Fido has been trending downward in South Korea, pups are still a staple on North Korean menus, with entire restaurants devoted to serving dog meat.
The move to confiscate resident’s pets may point to an issue far more serious than Jung Un’s disdain for Western society, the UN reported that 60 percent of the country is facing food shortages.
The isolated nation has been sanctioned internationally for nuclear missile development and decided to close down its border with China, their main food supplier, due to coronavirus concerns. A series of natural disasters impeded the country’s ability to feed itself when crucial agricultural regions were decimated by floods last month after monsoon rains.
The authoritarian dictator has announced that the nation would not accept international help, in order to avoid Covid-19 exposure, and has opted to feed starving citizens with his own private grain reserves. The capital’s dogs may be sustaining the country next.

When it gets to be that bad, it means that the situation isn’t going to last much longer. Either the military removes him or the people revolt and he either leaves the country or dies.
