Due to the increasing prominence of a parody account imitating Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known as “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (parody)” (@AOCpress), there are indications that AOC is contemplating her continued presence on Twitter unless the account is taken down.
The parody account gained significant attention when it engaged in a tweet interaction with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, where it jokingly stated:
“Perhaps it’s the influence talking, but I’ve developed a slight infatuation with @elonmusk.”

Controversially, Musk responded to the tweet, which many argued increased the account’s visibility and traction.
AOC took to social media to address the issue, informing her followers:
“I want to make everyone aware that there is a fraudulent account posing as me, and it is gaining traction. The Twitter CEO himself has acknowledged it, thereby increasing its visibility.”

It is releasing false policy statements and gaining spread.

In response, a parody account chimed in with a comment:
“After consulting with my team, I have decided to propose that Congress pass legislation prohibiting jokes, laughter, or mockery directed towards me. Parody should be deemed illegal.”

The parody account humorously added:
“The account even playfully suggests reporting tweets to the Department of Justice.”

Many people interpreted AOC’s use of the term “assessing” as an indication that she was contemplating her future on Twitter. It is noteworthy to mention that AOC had previously attempted to utilize BlueSky, an alternative to Twitter, but it failed to gain popularity despite being marketed as a platform free from the influence of right-wing figure Elon Musk. Even AOC’s involvement did not succeed in boosting the growth of BlueSky.
In December 2021, AOC voiced her criticism of Elon Musk for suspending the accounts of several journalists who regularly reported on him and the social media platform. These journalists often shared content related to monitoring Musk’s private jet, citing safety concerns.
“I understand the need to feel secure, but resorting to the abuse of power and arbitrarily banning journalists only exacerbates the attention around you,” stated the Democratic representative.
“As someone who has faced real and dangerous threats, I do understand. I didn’t have security and have been through numerous frightening incidents,” she added.
“Interestingly, many of the right-wing outlets you now support have published pictures of my home, car, and more. At some point, you need to disconnect. Maybe try putting down your phone,” she suggested.
To this, Mr. Musk replied, “You go first, lol.”
