A deputy attorney general in California has been arrested—after being charged with possession of child pornography.
Raymond Joseph Liddy, 53, is the son of Nixon aide—and major figure in the Watergate scandal—G. Gordon Liddy. He’s served in the state prosecutor’s office in California since 2008.
Liddy was investigated after an internet provider tipped off the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a user had uploaded what appeared to be child porn. A month later, another internet provider gave a similar tip.
Both tips were traced by local and federal authorities to Liddy’s home. There, they uncovered a number of photos on Liddy’s computer and on a thumbdrive—showing disturbing images of children engaged in violent sexual acts.
Liddy told authorities that he had used the usernames and internet providers that had been received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, but claimed the images were of adults.
On Tuesday, Liddy pleaded not guilty and was released on a $100,000 bond. He has since been placed under house arrest, with GPS monitoring.
