Shannon Brandt, 41, is being charged with the murder of Cayler Ellingson, 18, after Brandt ran down the right-wing teenager with his car on September 18. Brandt is currently being held in jail on a $1 million dollar bond. Shannon Brandt will appear in court Thursday at 9:00 A.M., and is expected to enter a guilty or not guilty plea.

Cayler Ellingson was out at a street dance event in McHenry, North Dakota, at a local bar prior to being chased down and allegedly murdered by Shannon Brandt. Ellingson was on the phone with his mother and awaiting a ride home.

On the 911 call Brandt made, after running down the teenager with his SUV, Brandt told the operator that Ellingson was part of a “right-wing extremist group”. Brandt told the operator that Ellingson, among others, was out to “get him”, however, there’s been no evidence to point to this allegation being true. Not many suspects out to “get” someone are on the phone with their mother moments beforehand, wanting to get picked up and sounding distressed because someone was behind the wheel of their SUV chasing him.

According to Fox News:

After the incident, Ellingson was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries and later died.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind told Fox News Digital earlier that there was “no evidence” suggesting that the teenager was part of a “Republican extremist group” or that the incident was politically driven.

After the incident, Brandt was charged with criminal vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death, but it was upgraded to murder.

Foster County State’s Attorney Kara Brinster said that the criminal vehicular homicide charge was dismissed because of the new murder charge.

A probable cause affidavit states that Brandt asked a 911 operator if he was going to prison.

“I just wanna ask you a question, am I going to prison?”

Brandt asked, according to the affidavit.

During the 911 call, Brandt also

“made comments regarding the incident being intentional and not an accident,”

According to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, when the 911 operator asked “he wouldn’t let your vehicle go then what happened,” and Brandt responded “yes I… I just tried to take of en, he… he wasn’t going to let me go, I I hit him I didn’t mean to and and he’s subdued I was scared to death but he’s subdued, he can’t do anything to me now so, so this is why I’m calling you.”

At 2:34 a.m. on Sept. 18, Ellingson called his mother and asked if he should call his “cousins or posse,” the affidavit states, adding that his mother didn’t know if the teen was feeling threatened yet, responding that he “didn’t need to do that and that she was on her way to pick” him up.

Ellingson’s last call with his mother would be at 2:42 a.m., when he said something to the effect of ‘they are after me or he is after me,” according to the affidavit, which adds that the call then dropped.

Brandt turned himself into jail on Sept. 30, and is being held on a $1 million bond.

The media has largely turned a blind eye to this potentially politically motivated murder. Brandt, a full-grown adult at the age of 41, is alleged to have murdered 18-year-old Ellingson. Of course, it can be assumed that if the political affiliations were reversed, this would be front-page breaking news, and everyone from Donald Trump to Tucker Carlson would be blamed.

Comments

  1. This man’s intentional actions should not be ignored and allowed to stand. he needs to go to prison forever with no chance of parole.

  2. Brant had no right to run down anyone right or left wing,. that was malicious taking of a life of a young person. the minimum should be life in a tough prison that would be worse than death, Death would give him an out
