In 2012, liberals had a field day with a political science study that claimed conservatives were more likely to show traits associated with “psychoticism.’

Now, the American Journal of Political Science, who released the study, is saying that they made a grave error: it’s actually liberal political beliefs, not conservative ones, that are linked to psychotic traits.

“The interpretation of the coding of the political attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed,” the journal explained, in their written correction.

“The descriptive analyses report that those higher in Eysenck’s psychoticism are more conservative, but they are actually more liberal; and where the original manuscript reports those higher in neuroticism and social desirability are more liberal, they are, in fact, more conservative.”

Brad Verhulst, a researched at Virginia Commonwealth University who had co-authored the paper, said he didn’t know how the massive error happened, but admitted, “It’s our fault for not figuring it out before.”

According to the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, the incorrect report had been cited 45 times by different publications.

While this major error in a five-year-old study will likely go unnoticed, conservatives can take solace: there’s now scientific proof that liberals are, in fact, linked to psychopaths.
