Julián Castro Ends Presidential Campaign
Obama administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro has formally ended his presidential bid.

Despite his prior status as a rising star in the Democratic Party and the only Latino left in the race, Castro failed to break through the crowded primary field.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of 2020 Democratic presidential nomination polls had Castro at 1.2 percent.

In a general election, his uncompromising stances on issues ranging from illegal immigration to doxxing Trump supporters seemed unlikely to appeal to the broader electorate.

NBC News further reports:

Castro, who also spent five years as mayor of San Antonio, shaped his campaign around a policy agenda that was to the left of many of his Democratic counterparts.

Castro launched his campaign nearly a year ago, in January 2019, from his hometown of San Antonio on the city's West Side where he grew up.

He was first to roll out an immigration plan and led the other Democratic candidates in his call to make illegal border crossings a civil violation instead of a criminal misdemeanor.
