Virtually all Democrats (with notable exceptions like Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema) avoided applauding President Trump's State of the Union address like the plague, even at moments that transcended politics.

There was no more an egregious example than when the president introduced former Tuskegee Airman Brigadier General Charles McGee.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, even then a group of Democratic Reps. including Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Mark Pocan didn't stand for McGee, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen.

The Washington Examiner reports:

During his address, Trump honored McGee and his great-grandson Iain, 13, who "aspires to go to the Air Force Academy."

"Sitting beside Iain tonight is his great hero. Charles McGee was born in Cleveland, Ohio, one century ago. Charles is one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, the first black fighter pilots, and he also happens to be Iain's great-grandfather," the president said.

"After more than 130 combat missions in World War II, he came back to a country still struggling for civil rights and went on to serve America in Korea and Vietnam. On Dec. 7, Charles celebrated his 100th birthday," Trump continued. "A few weeks ago, I signed a bill promoting Charles McGee to brigadier general. And earlier today, I pinned the stars on his shoulders in the Oval Office. General McGee: Our nation salutes you."

Tlaib and Omar broke with their fellow "Squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in attending the president's address.
