Just days after another poll showed her Democratic presidential campaign going down in flames, California Senator Kamala Harris trucked in supporters to cheer at designated points in her speech to the Democratic National Committee to make it appear the party was behind her.

Harris, addressing a meeting last week of the DNC, delivered a speech that appeared to have captured the heart of party committee members in attendance.

But it was all a stunt.

"Kamala Harris's speech at the DNC was boosted by a cheering section of about 40 people that her campaign brought in, erupting every time she hit a big line — and then that group got up and walked out as soon as she finished," The Atlantic's Edward-Isaac Dovere tweeted.

The Astroturfing comes after a new CNN poll shows Harris' campaign in a free-fall after she was dismantled by Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard in a televised debate.

Harris was polling at 17 percent in a CNN poll released July 1, putting her in second place behind former Vice President Joe Biden and trailing him by just 5 percent. Her numbers were boosted by a confrontation with Biden over his past support of race-based school busing in the 1970s.

But in a later debate, Gabbard gutted Harris by exposing her own racially-troubled record as a California prosecutor.

"She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana," said Gabbard.

That helped send Harris' support plunging to just five percent in CNN polling released Aug. 20, putting her in fifth place alongside South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
