6.) Heartbreak Ridge
Post-Vietnam, the U.S. military seemed mired in an unending funk.
Service members of the era talked about how low morale and lax discipline had infected every branch of the Armed Forces.
And recovering veterans still had to contend with angry Vietnam protesters who viciously accosted them.
However, slowly and painfully, the America military got its groove back. Clint Eastwood showed the way in Heartbreak Ridge.
Our favorite scene depicts Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway rifling through dead Cuban soldiers looking for delicious Cuban cigars.
Enemies of freedom were on notice: America was again prepared to kick butt and take names (and cigars).
