Socialist Party member Meyer London represented New York's 12th congressional district (Manhattan's Lower East Side) in the U.S. House for two non-consecutive terms.

London died in 1926 amid a desperate attempt by surgeons to save him after being struck by a car. When he arrived at Bellevue Hospital, where his daughter worked, London told her his only concern was that the driver not be punished. "It's not his fault and he is a poor man," he said.
