Cohen, who once boasted that he'd "take a bullet" for Trump, begin cooperating with prosecutors as soon as it became apparent the walls were closing in.

Although Jeannie Rhee, a member of Robert Mueller's team, claimed Cohen told the truth during their inquiry, a sentencing memo recommended "substantial" prison time.

The Manhattan U.S. attorney's office asked Judge William Pauley for a four-year sentence. Cohen's legal team tried to wriggle away without their client spending one night behind bars.

Trump's former personal attorney received three years in prison for campaign finance violations, tax evasion, and lying to Congress.
