Pennsylvania Representative Conor Lamb won in exurban Pittsburgh by splitting with national Democrats.

Lamb knew his path to victory was narrow – Donald Trump bested Hillary Clinton here by 20 points.

Mitt Romney and John McCain prevailed by similar margins.

Lamb's victory proved a blueprint for how Democrats in heavily red districts can prevail: Appeal to the same voters Trump did, focus on local issues, and criticize Congress – which at the time was Republican-led – rather than attack the president.

However, Lamb may have made a misjudgment by supporting Joe Kennedy III as Speaker.

Kennedy's response to last year's State of the Union was explicitly anti-Trump.

Moreover, Kennedy's Liberty Score per Conservative Review is a dismal 22 percent.
