1.) New York
New York subjects its 20 million inhabitants to inordinately high taxes – almost twice the national average and rent control that has demolished the housing industry. The Empire State also imposes a high tax on cigarettes and forces residents to comply with restrictive smoking bans. The ability to get a firearm is frustratingly difficult and virtually non-existent in the Big Apple. Consequently, New York has the least freedom in the entire country.
