Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1942’s camp counselor of the year, was reported to have played an active role in the Democratic Party’s wild 1924 National Convention, colloquially referred to as the “Klanbake.” The convention turned into a free-for-all, where the Ku Klux Klan endorsed the frontrunner – who never repudiated their endorsement – according to The Wall Street Journal.
Of course, Roosevelt survived reputation intact and the incident was all but forgotten by history.
