President Trump will meet with congressional Democratic leadership for dinner at the White House on Wednesday.
The dinner with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was confirmed by the White House and a source familiar with the meeting.
Schumer and Pelosi will use the face-to-face sit-down to push for legislation to protect undocumented immigrants brought into the U.S. illegally as children, as well as stabilizing the health insurance market — two top priorities for Democrats, according to the source.
The meeting comes after Trump shocked Republicans last week by cutting a short-term debt extension deal with Democrats. GOP leadership had wanted a longer-term extension instead.Schumer, while not mentioning the dinner, on Wednesday praised comments from White House legislative director Marc Short that Trump wouldn’t require border wall funding to be included in a fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
